The image of the car is the beginning. Layers give it another life.

Karen’s practice combines photographic imagery, stencils, paint, and layered mediums. Some works take automotive parts themselves as their surface. She brushes and scrapes through paint and clear mediums, bringing careful planning and chance into the same process.

That layering changes how the image reads. Look at the areas around the car as well as the car itself: visible marks, overlapping shapes, and passages of color connect the subject to its surroundings.

The print collection presents these compositions as full images. Opening an artwork lets you inspect the available photograph and take in the whole surface before discussing print options with the studio.
